GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL POLICY

 

The institution is sensitive to students’ grievances and is keen to solve it at the earliest.

As a mechanism to address and solve the grievances of the students the “Grievance Redressal Committee” is established as per the norms laid down by University Grants Commission.

Motto of Grievance Redressal Committee is not just receiving complaints but to render their service to the welfare and betterment of the students. The committee acts upon both academic or non-academic grievances.

The complaints and suggestions relating to improving academics and administration of the college are encouraged.

The cases will be handled by the committee immediately and promptly. The committee will act as per the rules and regulations and will follow a principle of natural justice.

 

COMPOSITION OF GRIVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

The Grievance Redressal Committee will comprise of the following members:

  • Principal…………………Chairperson.
  • Three faculty from B. Com. Programme (Atleast two Professors/Associate Professors)
  • One faculty from B.C.A. Programme
  • One faculty from M. Com. Programme
  • Head Clerk
  • One student representative

The constitution of the Grievance Redressal Committee for every academic year will be shown separately on the website.

 

OBJECTIVES OF GRIVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

  1. To develop responsive attitude among all the students.
  2. To create an atmosphere wherein the students are free to express their grievances.
  3. To address the grievances and provide a solution within a short time period.
  4. To encourage the students to respect the rights and dignity of one another.
  5. To ensure a very cordial relationship between the students and staff.
  6. To maintain an inclusive environment in and around the college campus.
  7. To give counselling to students wherever needed.
  8. To ensure a free atmosphere for the students to pursue their studies in the campus.
  9. To encourage the students to show utmost restraint and patience whenever occasion of right arises.

 

JURISDICTION OF GRIVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

The committee acts upon grievances submitted by the students or parents either orally or in writing. The committee deals with the following matters:

  • Academic Matters: Conduct of classes, classroom teaching, faculty irregularity, syllabus completion, perceived unfair treatment by faculty, etc.
  • Administration matters: Timely issue of identity cards, statement of marks, certificates, or other matters.
  • Infrastructure/Facilities matters: Academic facility, sports facility, canteen facility, sanitary issues, hygiene issues, security issues, etc.
  • Discipline matters

The following matters are outside the scope of the committee:

  • Decisions with regard to award of scholarships /fee concessions/awards.
  • Decisions made by institution under the Code of Conduct.
  • Decisions of the institution in respect of admissions to any programme of study.
  • Decisions of the Grievance Committee (Examination) constituted as per the Ordinances of Goa University

 

PROCEDURE:

All kind of grievances, are addressed to the committee either through the Principal, class mentors, faculty, divisional representatives or members of student’s council.

Also, complaints/suggestion box is made available on the campus wherein students can drop the grievance/suggestion without writing their name.

Parents can bring before the college authorities any grievances concerning their wards at the PTA meeting or by visiting the Principal personally.

The Grievance Redressal Committee, in turn, addresses the problem and solves it within the time frame depending upon the seriousness of the grievance.

In case the nature of grievance is very light, the Principal/mentor/faculty concerned may solve it at his/her level and intimate about the same to the principal.

In case of serious grievances and grievances which are in writing it is submitted to the Grievance Redressal Committee.

In case of grievances submitted to the committee, a meeting of the committee is convened either the same day or the next day at the latest. If felt necessary the students who have lodged the complaint are asked to be present at the meeting.

Also, if need be, perpetrators are invited to attend the meeting.

The committee gives a patient listening to the complainant as well as the perpetrators and discusses the issue in all possible angles and arrives at a decision which is submitted to the Principal.

The Principal is empowered to make his recommendations before passing it as an order to the students concerned.

The committee ensures the speedy settlement of the grievances and ensures that the aggrieved student is relieved of the grievance.

Normally the matter is settled within six working days.
